Mark Shields On The State of the Democratic Party

From CNN.com:
"The immediate question is whether Democrats are now able to see themselves for what they are -- an out-of-power, out-of-office minority, for whom honesty and reform are the only realistic policy and the only hope."
Mark Shields writes an excellent piece on the state of the Democratic Party. The Democrats have a window of opportunity. In fact, recent Republican Party actions have thrown that window wide open. But it is a limited window and it will close soon enough. I think Whoopie Goldberg said it best on Real Time. When speaking on the state of the Democratic Party she said, (and I paraphrase) "Not a ball among them." It is time the Democrats stepped up to the plate and started articulating actual party ideals. Just being the "we hate George Bush and Republicans" party will not be enough if they want to truly make a challenge to retake the Senate, House and even the Presidency in 2008. Make hay while the sun shines. It is time to speak up.
